Pet macros

Attack, follow, sit, and dismiss on your bind, not your bar. Pet control macros for hunters and warlocks in every era.

The bind that raises your pet for you

The single highest-value pet macro: raise the pet if it is missing, attack if it is present. It replaces the dead-pet panic moment and the forgotten-summon raid pull in one press. Hunters use the Call Pet spell; warlocks swap in their demon summon, and the shape is identical:

#showtooltip/cast Call Pet/petattack/startattack

Out of combat with no pet out, this macro calls the pet. With a pet out, it sends the pet and starts your auto-attack. One bind does both.

The gentle pet, for dungeons and towns

The leash bind: passive stance, then follow. The pet trails you through town and dungeon alike, attacks nothing, pulls nothing. Passive-while-traveling is the habit that keeps pets out of pulls, and the explicit attack key below is the send:

#showtooltip/petpassive/petfollow

Stance and leash

Pet stance has two modes, both macroable: /petpassive (never initiate) and /petdefensive (attack whatever you attack). The old aggressive mode is gone, and so is its command. What the leash commands add is movement:/petfollow brings the pet along, /petstay parks it out of a boss's puddle, and /petattack sends it. Good bars default to passive and press an explicit attack bind for the real send.

The raise key

Whenever a mechanic kills, dismisses, or despawns the pet, one press brings it straight back. Hunters use the Call Pet spell; warlocks swap in their demon summon (Summon Voidwalker and friends, specialization depending). The bind is class-specific by name and identical in shape:

#showtooltip/cast Call Pet

Keep /petdismiss on a spare key for the feign-death-style moments, and the full pet lifecycle sits under three keys, no pet window required mid-fight.

Hunters: the send-and-weave bind

The one-bind starter for classic hunters, woven with theauto-shot weaver:

#showtooltip/castsequence reset=target !Auto Shot, !Auto Shot, !Auto Shot/petattack

Every press shoots if the bow is ready and sends the pet. Your whole opener set is one key. The classic hunter page has more of these, including the multi-shot interleave.

Keeping it boring on purpose

Pet macros are the least flashy kind on the site, and that is their strength. A pet bind that surprises you mid-fight is worse than no bind at all. When you assemble yours, test the passive stance first, the attack second, and never chain a pet command after a /cast that can fail and swallow the rest of the line.

Questions people ask

Do pet macro commands work for warlocks too?+
Yes. /petattack, /petfollow, /petstay, /petpassive, /petdefensive, and /petdismiss all work for any class with a pet, which in practice means hunters and warlocks. Summoning is the one gap at the command level: hunters raise the pet with the Call Pet spell, warlocks with their demon summon, and /petsummon does not exist.
Will a pet macro pull mobs I do not want?+
An untended pet can pull, which is why good binds keep the pet passive by default and make the attack explicit: /petpassive for the traveling, /petattack only when you mean it. The classic pages here default to that arrangement, the older and safer habit.
Do pet macros work in Classic?+
Yes, all of them. The pet commands behave identically in the classic client, and the macros on this page are written so they work everywhere.
How do I summon and dismiss the pet?+
Hunters raise the pet with a /cast Call Pet bind and dismiss with /petdismiss. Warlocks use their demon summon spell instead of Call Pet. The pair replaces two bar buttons with context you never have to think about again.
